Do you think that Huckabee has possibilities of winning over Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama? He can't even unify conservatives, much less a majority of the nation! Huckabee had no chance of winning among economic conservatives because of his populist tendencies. Huckabee also offended many conservatives whenever he spoke on issues related to national security or criticized President Bush. If it had not been for Huckabee, we still would have a true conservative canditate with opportunities to win the Republican nomination and the presidency: Mitt Romney. Many of the votes that went to Huckabee, mostly or all from conservatives, could have gone to Romney. If Huckabee had not been in the race, Romney would have won Iowa and McCain would have dropped out of the race. It is too late now. I believe that now, after California's Super Tuesday, it makes sense to vote for Huckabee, not so that he can win, because he won't, but to show John McCain that he will not win the presidency unless he takes into consideration evangelical Christians and other conservatives.I hope that voters in future primaries vote for Huckabee even if they know that he has no chances at winning the nomination. Why? McCain has to see how many people are not in favor of his liberal tendencies. When he sees how many people voted for Romney and Huckabee, he will be more convinced that he has to govern in a more conservative way and not as he has done lately as a senator. The conservative base of the Republican party for example, opposes the stem cell research that McCain has supported up to now. He may very well continue to ignore the "agents of intolerance", as he calls us, but we have nothing to lose by letting him know that if he doesn't formally promise to govern as a conservative, his tendencies will cause great apathy in the party and people will not go out to vote for him.

In the final election however, I believe that we should vote for the candidate selected by the Republican party, regardless of who the nominee is. I prefer to see McCain nominate the next six justices to the Supreme Court and not Clinton nor Obama. I prefer to see McCain making decisions that pertain to the war, than to see any of the other two do so. If the Republican party loses the election, we will lose the opportunity to chart the course of history of this country when so much is at stake. If we lose the election, it will be due in part to the Republicans who did not have the vision to cast their votes in a strategic and united way in order to win as conservatives. Romney was the most conservative of all. Many preferred to see Clinton or Obama win the presidency than to see a pro-life Mormon win the nomination of the party. We are not voting for the leader of our church but the next president of the United States. We must vote for a person who shares and enforces our values. Let's continue to pray for this election and for our nation. May God have mercy on this country that we love so much.

Usted cree que Huckabee tiene posibilidades de ganarle a Hillary Clinton o a Barack Obama? Ni siquiera puede unificar a los conservadores, mucho menos a la mayoría de la nación! Huckabee no tiene ninguna oportunidad de ganar entre los conservadores en la economía debido a sus tendencias populistas. Huckabee también ofendió a muchos conservadores cada vez que habló de temas relacionados a la seguridad nacional o criticó al Presidente Bush. Si no hubiera sido por Huckabee, todavía tendríamos un candidato conservador con oportunidades de ganar la candidatura republicana y la presidencia: Mitt Romney.  Muchos de los votos que fueron a Huckabee en su totalidad o mayoría de conservadores, pudieron haber sido para Romney. Ya es muy tarde. Creo que ahora, después del Super Martes en California, si tiene sentido votar por Huckabee, no tanto para que gane, porque no va a ganar, sino para enseñarle a John McCain que no ganar la presidencia si no toma en cuenta a los cristianos evangélicos y otros conservadores. Si mi estado tuviera las elecciones primarias esta semana quizá votaría por Huckabee, aún sabiendo que no iba a ganar. McCain tiene que ver cuanta gente no está a favor de sus tendencias liberales. Cuando vea cuanta gente votó por Romney y Huckabee estaría mas convencido de que tiene que gobernar en forma mas conservadora y no como lo ha hecho como senador últimamente. La base conservadora del partido por ejemplo, se opone a la investigación científica que utiliza embriones, algo que McCain ha apoyado hasta ahora. Es probable que ignore a los "agentes de intolerancia" según sus palabras, pero no tenemos nada que perder con hacerle sentir que si no promete formalmente gobernar como conservador, sus tendencias causarán una apatía en el partido y la gente no saldrá a votar por él.

Sin embargo, en la elección final, yo pienso que debemos votar por el candidato del partido republicano sea quien sea. Prefiero "Guatemala que guatepeor". Prefiero ver que McCain nombre a los siguientes seis jueces de la Suprema Corte y no a Clinton u Obama. Prefiero ver a McCain tomando decisiones que conciernen a la guerra, que ver a cualquiera de los otros dos hacerlo. Si nuestro partido republicano pierde la elección, perderemos la oportunidad de marcar el curso de la historia de este país, ahora que hay tanto de por medio. Y si perdemos la elección, parte de la culpa la tendrán los mismos republicanos que votaron por Huckabee hasta el 5 de febrero pasado y que no tuvieron la visión de lanzar su voto en forma estratégica y unida para ganar como conservadores. Romney era el mas conservador de todos. Muchos prefirieron ver ganar a Clinton o a Obama que ver a un mormón que se opone al aborto ganar la candidatura del partido. No estamos votando por el líder de nuestra iglesia sino por el presidente de Estados Unidos. Debemos votar por una persona que comparta y ponga en práctica nuestros valores. Sigamos orando por las elecciones y por nuestra nación. Que Dios tenga misericordia de este país que tanto amamos.
